It seems as though my 14 year old daughter has been heading into some uncharted waters when dad's not at home. I find "kitchenette" and jez on my iPad tonight. Kitchenette isn't too bad, as I'm fairly certain she is interested in the food articles more than anything. However, jez is a whole different matter. Their topics can be very adult oriented, and I'd like to know what she thinks of their writing, and what she reads from there. Some times it's difficult to get a bead on what she is really interested in, as she is a voracious reader, with Aspergers thrown in for good measure. Ah, parenthood. Soooo much fun.

Just don't *seem/act* angry about it to her... that is a very (more so than Jez!) bad thing to do to a tween/teen as a parent (ask me how I know)

looks like your daughter is headed towards a life of being bitter, hateful and acting like the world owes her something. Delete the jez link asap.

Sometimes, it's best to let it lie. I read /anything/ and everything I could, and I still do, so... Let her figure out what she's interested in, and do her reading...

This is just from my personal experience, as an aspie, myself...

I grok you, bro. My 8 year old daughter & 7 year old son uses the wife's iPad to view stuff. Usually youtube videos related to My Little Pony and Minecraft (and now Terraria, which is a side-scroller Minecraft clone.) Sometimes the language and content of those videos leaves a lot to be desired. We've had talks about what is appropriate, language and content wise, and that if there is anything that doesn't make sense or makes them uncomfortable to come to us immediately. They have a few times, but still listen to too many cuss words for my liking.

Having had experience being a 14-year-old girl, there are worse places one can be reading about adult topics, and better things to be doing when dad's not home :P

That being said, if you do have concerns about the content, a non-confrontational talk over a Dad-daughter brunch (who doesn't love brunch?) could be a good way to hear her opinions. Not sure if you have a partner in the picture as well but my parents handled stuff like this together even though they are separated.

PS If you post to oppo from that iPad, she probably knows your kinja name now, too.

Check the actual history and see what articles she's reading.

Not everything there is teh evilz. Some of it could be seen as too adult for a 14 year old, but they also post plenty of cute cat videos and other fluffy stuff there.
